Hsinchu, Taiwan, April 28, 2010 – Ralink Technology Corp. (TAIEX: 3534) today held its first quarter 2010 investor conference at the Grant Hyatt hotel in Taipei, and announced that 18.4 million units shipped in the first quarter, representing a 6.7% shipment growth compared to the previous quarter, and a 127.9% shipment growth compared to the same period of last year. The retail market shipment accounted for 52% of the total unit shipments, while broadband accounted for 25%, PC/NB for 18% and the consumer electronics market for 5%.
The company stated that its Wi-Fi + BT Combo solution has made way into tier-1 NB brands and started shipping in February of this year. This helped to increase the portion of PC/NB segment of total shipment contribution from 13% to 18%. The overall shipment outlook for the second quarter of this year is to at least maintain the momentum of the first quarter.
The Company also reported earlier this month its consolidated revenue of NT$1,677.3 million, NT$261.0 million net income, and an EPS of NT$2.1 for the first quarter, ending March 31, 2010.
On a year over year basis, the first quarter revenue increased by 98.9% while net income increased by 185.5% and EPS increased by 176.3%. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2009, first quarter results represent a 4.2% increase in revenue, 21.4% increase in net income, and 22.1% increase in EPS. All figures were prepared in accordance with R.O.C. GAAP on a consolidated basis.
The gross margin of the first quarter was 43.3%, up 179 basis points sequentially, while the operating margin was 15.2% and the net margin was 15.6%.
The company stated that due to the change of the product portfolio and the launch of new products, the gross margin in the second quarter is expected to be steady or to slightly improve. Meanwhile, with a strong increase in the end demand driven by the wireless networking industry, the unit shipment growth in the second quarter is expected to gradually gain momentum.
