Highly-integrated, High-performance PCI Solutions for Wireless Broadband Devices

Ralink offers a complete line of PCI 802.11x solutions designed for embedded multimedia applications as well as PCs, notebooks, and broadband gateways. This family of products integrates a CMOS RF front-end, media access controller (MAC), baseband processor (BBP) and host interface into a single chip (RT3062/RT3562) that fully complies with IEEE 802.11n and IEEE 802.11a/b/g standards.


With Ralink’s optimized RF architecture and patented baseband algorithms, Ralink's PCI solutions provide reliable wireless connectivity and extended wireless coverage with industry-leading throughput and low power consumption. The dual-band solutions enable operations of connected multimedia devices in the 5GHz band, where lower interference results in higher throughput, while leaving data-centric networking devices to operate in the 2.4GHz band at the same time.


2-stream capability in this family (RT2860/RT3062/RT3562) takes advantage of the MIMO techniques and delivers the high throughput and link quality, which are paramount for wireless multimedia applications. With the addition of its single chip RT3x62 series, Ralink enriches its complete portfolio of Wi-Fi chip sets for networking and multimedia applications in the digital home.


The RT3x62 series provides high-performance 802.11n solutions in a small form-factor, and integrates not only the dual-band CMOS radios, BBP and MAC but also power management and interface circuits into a single chip. Ralink has set a new milestone with the technical capability demonstrated in this high level of integration for dual-band applications with superior cost and performance.


The RT3x62 series comes with an intelligent MAC, which deploys a highly efficient DMA engine and a hardware accelerator to offload packet processing burden from the host processor. They also integrate multiple security engines on-chip, including WPA, WPA2, Wi-Fi Protected Set-Up and QoS (802.11e and WMM), enabling a rich feature set to support different security modes of operation required for voice, video and data transmission.
