Ralink Among First to Receive Wireless LAN WHQL Certification for Microsoft Windows Vista™
CUPERTINO, CA, OCTOBER 09, 2006 - Ralink Technology, a leading developer of 802.11x WLAN chipsets, today announced that its driver is among the first to be granted the wireless LAN's first WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Lab) certification for Windows Vista by Microsoft. Windows Vista is the first version of the Microsoft operating system that includes native 802.11 support. The extensive support includes WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) improved security with hidden network handling, diagnostic for better management, new user interface that simplifies configuration, performance improvements with 4-way handshake in kernel and file sharing for better ad-hoc network integration. WHQL certification reassures businesses and consumers that Ralink WLAN chipsets are fully ready to unlock the next generation wireless networking features of the powerful Windows Vista platform, including Vista Premium. To receive the Windows Vista logo, Ralink developers planned, prepared and designed drivers based on "Certified for Windows Vista" document from Microsoft. Then, the developers pre-tested the drivers using "Certified for Windows Vista" Test cases from Microsoft. And finally, the developers applied for the certification starting September 2006 and obtain the Windows Vista Certified logo in October 2006. The products with "Certified for Windows Vista" logo are estimated to hit the mass market in January 2007.
"Ralink is working closely with Microsoft to ensure the best performance and most reliable Vista experience through our high-performance, comprehensive line of WLAN chipsets" said Paul Lin, Director of Software, Ralink Technology.
Currently shipping Ralink WLAN chipsets certified for windows Vista includes the RT2501 and RT2501U.
